Travel Information

Consult this section for more information on how to embark on your trip abroad with awareness and safety.

Make sure that your identity card or passport and eventually your residence permit are valid for the entire period of mobility.

If you are travelling outside the EU and to non-EU countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme (e.g. Turkey) you need an entry visa: to obtain it, remember to contact the diplomatic representation (Embassy or Consulate) in Italy of the country of destination in good time.

If you are a non-EU citizen, collect the necessary information in advance and obtain the documents that will allow you to enter and stay in the host country: the legislation and regulations governing the immigration of non-EU students in the various countries participating in the Erasmus+ Programme are different, and linked to the nationality of these students.

Before leaving, we also advise you to consult the website Viaggiare Sicuri and read the information distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about your host country and the visa guidelines.

Visit Viaggiare Sicuri, a portal managed by the Farnesina Crisis Unit, which provides an overview of entry requirements, health insurance, and the safety conditions of the destination country.

Inform yourself about health care in the host country by contacting the ASST or the diplomatic representations.

If you are a European citizen and stay within the Union, basic health insurance coverage is guaranteed by the European Health Insurance Card (TEAM/EHIC), which provides access to basic health services in EU countries.

Also check how to purchase prescription drugs while you are abroad.

If you are a non-EU citizen, before leaving, check with the diplomatic representations of the host country what the requirements for health insurance are.

For periods of mobility outside the EU it is advisable to buy a private health insurance with any travel agency or insurance company.

For detailed information on each country, consult the Ministry of Health website and search for your destination through the interactive guide “Se parto per“.

Register on the MAECI website managed by the Crisis Unit “Dove siamo nel mondo“, clearly indicating the required data: names, city/country, host university, updated contact details and period of stay. It is advisable to download the “Crisis Unit” APP to receive notifications during transits in risky areas and real-time updates on any dangerous situations, wherever in the world they occur.

Throughout your mobility period you will automatically benefit from accident and liability insurance cover from the University of Pavia.

If the mobility period is completed after graduation, you will have to pay the cumulative accident policy (annual premium of €2.00).

Any coverage beyond what is provided by the university must be arranged independently by the student.

To carry out a mobility period in U.K. a visa can be requested according to the type/lenght of activity carried out (study, traineeship, research) and the nationality of the participant.

Starting from 2025, the United Kingdom will introduce the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) as a mandatory requirement for all travelers from countries that do not require a visa for short stays. This new authorization will be necessary for Italian citizens (and other EU nationals) traveling for tourism, business, or other short-term stays.
