Erasmus+ for Study

The Erasmus+ program, promoted by the European Union, allows you to spend between two and twelve months at a participating university or in partner countries.

You will be able to attend courses and seminars, work on your thesis project, and even carry out internship activities (if permitted by the host university).

As an Erasmus+ student, you will benefit from the recognition of the activities completed abroad and will have access to the services that the host university provides to its own students.

You can participate if:

  • You are a student regularly enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, single-cycle degree program, specialization school, doctoral program, or university master’s program*.
  • You have a good knowledge of the host country’s language (or the language in which the courses are taught).
  • You are not receiving, for the same study period, a community grant provided by other programs or actions funded by the European Commission.
  • You have not been an Erasmus, Erasmus Placement/Traineeship, or Erasmus Overseas student for a period exceeding 12 months (24 months for single-cycle programs) in the study cycle in which you are enrolled and for which you are requesting mobility.

*In the Italian academic system, there is a distinction between a Master’s Degree and a Master.

  • Master’s Degree (Laurea Magistrale) refers to a second-cycle academic degree (EQF Level 7) that typically lasts two years and follows a Bachelor’s Degree (Laurea Triennale). It grants access to further academic paths such as PhD programs.

  • Master (Master di I o II livello) is a postgraduate specialization program that can be either first-level (after a Bachelor’s Degree) or second-level (after a Master’s Degree). These programs focus on professional training and do not grant access to PhD studies.

This distinction is important when considering academic recognition and mobility opportunities.

During your Erasmus study period, you can:

  • Attend courses, take exams, and conduct research in preparation for your thesis.
  • Combine these activities with an internship/traineeship (only if they are part of your study program)

Upon your return, the activities carried out abroad will be recognized by the University of Pavia. A scholarship is available to support mobility expenses.

You can choose up to three of the destinations offered for your study area by consulting the lists of destinations or seeking support from the International Mobility Delegate for your Erasmus Area.

You will be assigned to one of your three choices, based on the fulfillment of specific requirements.

The Call is published between January and February and allows for a mobility period in the first or second semester, or for the entire academic year.

Depending on availability, the Call may be reopened later to allow for a mobility period in the second semester only.

You can participate by applying on Mobility Online, following the instructions provided in the relevant Call for application and in the relevant webpage.

After the Selections

What to do after being assigned to a host institution?

The mobility consists of three phases, each with specific requirements.

Check the necessary steps depending on your current phase:

  1. Before departure;
  2. During mobility;
  3. Upon return;

Completing all required procedures in each phase ensures the proper execution of the program and facilitates the recognition of academic activities.

The Swiss European Mobility Programme (SEMP) is a transitional solution adopted by the Swiss Federal Council and the European Union following the February 9, 2014, referendum on mass immigration, which led to Switzerland’s suspension from the Erasmus+ programme.

SEMP allows students to undertake a mobility period at a Swiss partner university under the principles of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.

All students interested in a mobility period at a Swiss university are encouraged to visit the official SEMP Programme website and the website of the Swiss university they wish to apply to. It is important to note that selection for mobility at a Swiss institution only grants Erasmus+ student status. This status is subject to the Swiss university’s acceptance and its independent decision on awarding financial mobility grants.

Students eligible for an SEMP grant will not receive the Erasmus+ financial contribution.

Students undertaking a study or traineeship mobility period at a Swiss partner university must verify their eligibility for the SEMP grant, complete the required certification, and submit it to the UOC International Mobility Office.

The Coimbra Group Student Exchange Network (CG SEN) is a programme designed to facilitate student mobility within the Coimbra Group. CG SEN aims to strengthen academic and cultural ties while providing privileged exchange opportunities across all academic disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Eligible participants are regular students from Coimbra Group universities within the SEN who meet the academic and language requirements. The programme covers most academic disciplines, though some restrictions may apply.

Students interested in a Coimbra Group SEN mobility period can apply through the Erasmus+ Study call for applications and will be granted Erasmus+ student status.
